Rig's up....

The boys came down to the club on Easter Sunday morning to help get the rig up. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for taking some away from your families on this Easter Sunday. She is 90% ready to go now. I need to put the sails on, re-tie the lifeline, tune the rig, bring the spares, and a few other miscellaneous minor things. It is a beautiful sunny but chilly day with not a breath of wind. After putting a few fires out at the office, we are going to head to the club and go for a spin. It sure will be nice to finally get out on the lake. Not sure we will sail, but we will get out on the water. I'll take some pictures and post one or two a little later.
Happy Easter Monday everybody.

Ah, that feels better....

Wow, what an auspicious start to this season, it was so cold and windy when we launched. There were snow flakes flying about, but we persevered. We normally head right out of the harbor, just to stretch our legs as soon as we motor out of the travel lift bay, but not this year. Can't tell you how cold it was, north winds are biting cold and today was a classic example of this.
I have always felt that a boat looks out of sorts on land, so much better once they are afloat. She is tied nicely in our very protected harbor waiting for us to put the rig up and do our shake down sail. Hopefully the gang will have a little time to help get this done this coming weekend. With the team onsite, we can get her rigged and set to go in around 2 hours. It is always a little longer at the beginning of the year as we have to wash the winter grime of the spar before we put her up.

Ready for launch, the picture version.

All set ready for splashing on Thursday morning. Thanks to everybody who made this happen.

Ready to go.....

Team mobilized yesterday late afternoon and evening to get Convictus ready for launch. Getting splashed Thursday sometime in the morning. I'll get some pictures of the great job the guys did getting the bottom ready with a new coat of anti-fouling paint and the polish on the topsides, before she gets wet .Stay tuned for pictures.
Figures today would be a much nicer and warmer day than yesterday where it was touch and go whether we would get snow. Today it is almost balmy, at least it is compared to yesterday when it was downright freezing.
If the weather cooperates we might be able to get the rig up on Friday as it is Good Friday, so a day off for most of us. Not sure we will get out on the water this weekend, but the option will be there if the opportunity presents itself.

Launching this week

Convictus, our Laser 28 is scheduled for launch this Thursday. This will be the earliest we will have launched ever I believe. We have gone in on the 23rd and the 24th in the past, but the norm is usually within the first few days on May. Now if all goes according to plan, it will be the 21st which is awesome. Now need the weather to get warmer so it will make it interesting and fun to be out on the water. Water levels are very high this spring, 6 ft over datum as of yesterday. Hoping the levels stay high and not run off as they often do by mid June......

"The earth is one country and mankind, its citizens."

Once again I come across a quote that is just too true. I read this quote and the first thought that comes to mind is "If only we could live by this mantra, maybe there would be less war and hatred. If only....."
Am I being too optimistic? I honestly don't think so.
We here in North America live at a very fast pace. We are so busy with too many things, and I think that is the root of many of our issues. To use a common expression, "stop and smell the roses", might explain in a clearer way what I am trying to say.
It is a beautiful day today, one of the first real spring Saturdays we have had this year. With it come hope that a we as a society can change for the betterment of humanity.
Have a great day.
